Your complete guide to growing your business with social media

If you’re an entrepreneur, you’re probably on social media trying to grow your audience, market to potential clients, target your niche, and essentially grow your business. But are you doing it right? Are you using social media to your advantage to get the most benefit from it?

But before we start, it’s important to remember that not every platform is the best platform for your business. You don’t have to be present on them all. Instead, spend your energy and time on the platforms you ARE successful on (it’s better to be outstanding on one platform than mediocre on all of them). Facebook is a great way to connect with people in a more intimate setting in the virtual world. You can invite people into your groups and events, it’s easier to communicate with people who are local to you, and you can still promote your business with a page dedicated to your business. You can post both photos and videos to grab your audience’s attention. Facebook Messenger is an excellent subsection of Facebook to connect with potential clients.


Instagram was previously a primarily image-based platform until recently. Users would spend countless hours editing and perfecting photos to make beautifully curated feeds, which gives me all the heart-eyes. But, with the popularity of TikTok, Instagram has changed its ways to keep up. Instagram is a great way to reach potential clients worldwide through photos, videos, reels, lives, stories, and of course, hashtags.

 With Instagram, you can gain followers and connect with your audience by sharing stories you’ve been tagged in, running competitions, and engaging with your followers.


Some may say that LinkedIn is an underutilized social media platform, especially compared to some of its competitors. But in 2020, HubSpot reported that LinkedIn generated the highest visitor-to-lead rate, stating that it was nearly three times higher than both Twitter and Facebook. Now, I know a lot has changed since 2020, with a lot more businesses showing up online, but I still think that statistic is worth noting.

LinkedIn is a great way to connect with other professionals and share your content and ideas. You can create posts of varying lengths alongside your picture or video and even share external links in the feed. So that favourite store, that new book you just bought, that blog you just wrote… it’s all easily accessible right on your post!


Pinterest is like Google’s prettier little sister. Before 2021, the Pinterest audience was mainly women looking for wedding planning ideas, home décor, and DIY. However, by the end of 2021, Pinterest reported that nearly 40% of its users were males and Gen Z-ers.

Pinterest is a bit more of a learning curve, but once you dial in how to market your business on Pinterest, you’ll start reaching more people! Two pieces of advice if you’re entering the world of Pinterest – (1) remember that most people use Pinterest on a mobile device, so keep that in mind when creating your pins (2) please please double and even triple-check that your links work. Nothing is more frustrating than thinking you found what you’re looking for and then not being able to get there.


Tiktok has been around since 2018 but has recently gained popularity and taken off. Businesses, celebrities, grandmas, and just about everyone in between are on TikTok. TikTok is a great way to create short videos showcasing your business. Everything from behind-the-scenes of how products are made, tours of the workplace, cheeky introductions, and the funny and the quirky ins and outs of you and your business. TikTok is about being fun and creative, not so much about being professional and salesy.
